Parker Brown Macaulay & Sheerin, a boutique law firm focused solely on ERISA and employee benefits, seeks an outstanding ERISA / Employee Benefit Plan Compliance Specialist to support our team. The position is fully remote and may be either a part-time or full-time position.
Qualified candidates will be well versed in benefit plan statutory and regulatory requirements, plan document terms and provisions, and audit and corrections. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting teams regarding regulatory compliance for benefit plans in a third party administrator, plan custodian, actuarial firm, platform provider, or law firm setting.
The position will primarily be focused on tax-qualified retirement plans (defined benefit, 401(k) and other defined contribution plans and 403(b) plans) and also non-qualified executive deferred compensation plans, including 457(b) and 457(f) plans. However, the ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in all types of employee benefit plans, including health and welfare plans and non-ERISA plans.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure individually designed benefit plans maintained by the firm meet all legal requirements.
Manage data in accordance with the plan’s record retention policies and procedures and state and federal laws and regulations.
Stay informed about and monitor legislative changes, updates to regulations or guidance, and industry trends relating to employee benefits, particularly those that affect our clients.
Perform reviews, run reports, and audit data to minimize risk, ensure smooth plan operations, and identify and address potential compliance issues.
Coordinate and liaise with certain plan sponsors and TPAs / custodians / vendors to ensure timely and accurate non-discrimination testing, annual Form 5500 reporting, enrollment, and plan document updates.
Addressing questions and concerns from clients and stakeholders.
Required Skills and Experience:
Experience in employee benefit plan administration, testing, and reporting.
Demonstrated knowledge of employee benefit plan regulatory compliance, including the most important statutes, regulations, and guidance related to employee retirement benefits (e.g. ERISA, 401(k), 409A).
Strong data analysis, organizational, project management, and creative problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to work independently, be self-motivated, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, and ability to handle all interactions with a high level of professionalism.
Desired Skills and Experience:
5+ years of experience with tax-qualified retirement plans with a plan custodian (such as Fidelity Investments) or an actuarial firm is preferred.
Experience with qualified and non-qualified retirement plans,
Experience with health and welfare plans and executive deferred compensation arrangements is a plus.
